Thinking About Securing Your Home Computer

Before diving into the tasks you need to do to secure your home computer, let’s first think about the problem by relating it to something you already know how to do. In this way, you can apply your experience to this new area.

So, think of your computer as you would your house, your apartment, or your condo. What do you know about how that living space works, what do you routinely do to keep it secure, and what have you installed to improve its security? (We’ll use this “computer-is-like-a-house-and-the-things-in-it” analogy throughout, departing only a few times to make a point.)

For example, you know that if you have a loud conversation, folks outside your space can probably hear you. You also routinely lock the doors and close the windows when you leave, and you don’t give the keys to just anyone. Some of you may install a security system to complement your practices. All of these are part of living in your home.

Let’s now apply similar thinking to your home computer. Email, instant messaging, and most web traffic go across the Internet in the clear; that is, anyone who can capture that information can read it. These are things you ought to know. You should always select and use strong passwords and exercise due care when reading all email, especially the unsolicited variety. These are things you ought to do. Finally, you can add a firewall, an anti-virus program, patches, and file encryption to improve the level of security on your home computer, and we’ll call these things you ought to install.

Prior to the advent of the microprocessor, a computer was usually built in a card-cage case or mainframe with components connected by a backplane consisting of a set of slots themselves connected with wires; in very old designs the wires were discrete connections between card connector pins, but printed-circuit boards soon became the standard practice. The central processing unit, memory and peripherals were housed on individual printed circuit boards which plugged into the backplane.

During the late 1980s and 1990s, it became economical to move an increasing number of peripheral functions onto the motherboard (see above). In the late 1980s, motherboards began to include single ICs (called Super I/O chips) capable of supporting a set of low-speed peripherals: keyboard, mouse, floppy disk drive, serial ports, and parallel ports. As of the late 1990s, many personal computer motherboards support a full range of audio, video, storage, and networking functions without the need for any expansion cards at all; higher-end systems for 3D gaming and computer graphics typically retain only the graphics card as a separate component.

The early pioneers of motherboard manufacturing were Micronics, Mylex, AMI, DTK, Hauppauge, Orchid Technology, Elitegroup, DFI, and a number of Taiwan-based manufacturers.

Popular personal computers such as the Apple II and IBM PC had published schematic diagrams and other documentation which permitted rapid reverse-engineering and third-party replacement motherboards. Usually intended for building new computers compatible with the exemplars, many motherboards offered additional performance or other features and were used to upgrade the manufacturer’s original equipment.

The term mainboard is archaically applied to devices with a single board and no additional expansions or capability. In modern terms this would include embedded systems, and controlling boards in televisions, washing machines etc. A motherboard specifically refers to a printed circuit with the capability to add/extend its performance/capabailities with the addition of “daughterboards”.

بدايته
بدأ حياته الرياضية بمدينة الخفجي حيث شارك في دورات الحواريي ولعب لنادي العلمين ثم انتقل الى نادي الاخدود عام 1411لعب مع فريق شباب الاخدود ضد فريق شرورة حيث سجل هدفين كتن ذلك ضمن دوري المناطق اقصر دوري في العالم حيث يتكون من مبارتين فقط بين الاخدود وشرورة ذهاب واياب)** وفي ذلك الوقت دبت الخلافات بين المسؤوليين في نادي الاخدود حيث طالب الحسن بتنسيقه وبعدها استمر الحسن عام ثم تم تنسيقه برغبته

انتقاله الى المنافس التقليدي
حضر الحكم الدولي المعروف( عويضة منصور) كان لاعب سابق بنادي نجران )الى منزل والد يطلب منه تسجيل الحسن في النادي(نجران) خاصة بعد ان تم تنسيقه من نادي الاخدود المنافس التقليدي

مشاركاته
انضم لنادي نجران لمدة موسمين رياضين بعد ذلك سجل في جامعة الملك عبد العزيزبجدة فطلب من رئيس نادي نجرانتنسيقه حتى يتفرغ للدراسة الجامعية

شارك مع منتخب الجامعة في دورة( ميني فوتبول) التي كانت تنضمها الجامعة

انتقل لنادي الاتحاد بواسطة مدير الكرة بنادي الاتحادعادل نوار بمبلغ 250 الف لنادي نجران وذلك عام 1996م

انظم لنادي الاتحادوشارك في التدريبات فلم يشفع له مستواه والسبب على حد قول المدرب البلجيكي ديمتري الداهية( تكوينه الجسماني ) ولم يعره اي اهتمام

هواياته
الحسن بالاضافة الى كرة القدم فهو يمارس بعض الرياضات مثل الجري والبلياردو والسلة وق حقق بطولة الجامعة في اختراق الضاححية

تاثرت( الحسن اليامي) كثير ا ينجمي المنتخب ماجد عبدالله ومحيسن الجمعان لدرجة انني حضرت اللقاء النهائيبين الهلال والنصر عام 1415
عزوبية الجامعة
جربت حياة العزوبية لدى التحاقي بجامعة الملك عبد العزيز جيث سكنت في اسكان الجامعة وكنت غرفتي تعج بالاصدقاء خاصة في اوقات الوجبات لاجادتي للطبخ وخاصة الماكولات الشعبية وبسبب حبي للمزاح والمداعبة كونت علاقات متميزة وقد اشتهرت في اسكان الجامعة

عندما نقيم معسكرات احب اشاعة روح المداعبة والمرح ويساعدني في ذلك صديقي جبرتي الشمراني بعمل المقالب الطريفة مثل قائد الاتحاد احمد جميل ولكن احمد جميل استطاع ان ينتصر علينا عندما كان ضحية احد مقالبنا فقام بحبسي في احد غرف المعسكر ولم تنفع معه توسلاتي لكي يخرجني ولم يخرجني
الا بعد ان اخذ علي عهد ان لا اعود لمثل هذه المقالب
- لعبها صح ابو ميمون
وبعد ابتعاد جبرتي اصبح زميلي الذي يشاركني في المقالب حمزة ادريس وقد ساعدني كثيرا في لعبى البلوت التي لا اجيدها ودائما ما اظلم فيها

مشواري مع الاتحاد
بالنسبة لياعتبر موسم 1420 هو الموسم الابرز في تاريخي الرياضي حيث تمكنت من الحضور بقوة بالرغم من بدايتي الهزيلة مع المدرب ديمتري والسبب لم يتح لي الفرصة ولكن في عام 1420 استطعت ان اقدم مستوى الحقيقي بعد ان اتيحيت لي الفرصة الكاملة لاثبات وجودي

تلقيت العديد من العروض داخل خارج المملكة تكهن البعض باني سانتقل ولكننني لن اتخلى عن النادي الذي احببته من كل قلبي بعيد عن الكرة اقضي معظم اوقاتي مع اسرتي واقوم بزيارة اقاربيفي نجران واهوي الذهاب الى البر كما نني احب السفر
